What a glorious time of year brought forth during the season of Christmas. The time when families come together in hopes of sharing their love, one with another, by the giving of gifts. No matter our age, this particular holiday is celebrated throughout, with many cheerful faces. Anticipation overshadows us in excitement of what awaits on the other side of the wrapping paper. Everyone joins within the same room, as eyes move to and fro, catching a glimpse at others tearing into another compelling present. But, let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas. Because, hidden within the depths of all the wrapping paper, is a true story brought forth by one man. JESUS.
Jesus. What a true act of unselfishness. God divine took the opportunity and challenge laid out for mankind. Sin had overtaken the world and no one could live a life pleasing enough to inherit Heaven. So this man named Jesus, left the splendors of Heaven, wrapped HIMSELF in flesh, and accomplished the perfect feat of walking upon this earth sinless. But, the story didn’t begin at the Cross as the sacrificial lamb. It actually begun 33 1/2 years before in a stable of Bethlehem. During the Christmas holiday we, as the church, always bring forth a nativity scene. The wonderful display appears innocent and calming. Gazing into the scenery of three Wiseman, animals, angels, Mary, Joseph, and of course, baby Jesus lying in the manager. The gorgeous lightening glistens from the attractive episode. Everyone who encounters the amazing location feels the inward peace. Please, do not allow me personally to subtract from the greatest event known to mankind. The real insight was glorious, because now, the Redeemer had arrived.
But, allow me to borrow your mind for just a moment and let us take a glimpse into the true picture that was being painted here. A virgin named Mary was pregnant. Joseph, her soon to be husband, thought about secretly divorcing her. The couple was running for their lives. Herod had ordered all babies 2 year old and under to be killed. The inn was full, so Mary had to now deliver her child in a stable. After the birth of her son, Mary wrapped this newborn in swaddling clothes and placed him in a manager. Speaking of messed up? Wow! This entire situation was total chaos. But, throughout all the chaos, God birthed a PROMISE, MIRACLE, and a SAVIOR!
The question lingers, what is God birthing in the middle of your mayhem?!?
